Indian Army trolled for tweet about Yeti

Former BJP MP Tarun Vijay urged the Army not to call Yeti a “beast” but a “snowman”.

New Delhi: The Indian Army got mightily trolled on Monday after it tweeted to its six million followers that one of its Himalayan expeditions sighted, for the first time, the “mysterious footprints of mythical beast Yeti measuring 32x15 inches close to Makalu base on 09 April, 2019”. A flood of jeering jokes inundated the social media in response, one of them telling the Army it was no “first-time” achie-vement as Tintin confronted Yeti in its own cave during his Tibetan adventure.

Another tweet had a picture of a ‘Yeti’ in a place that looked like the Metro with a caption that read, ‘He entered in city for voting’. Yet another said the Bigfoot’s footprints were spotted in Singapore last Sunday. Prime Minister Modi got dragged in too.

And there were serious posts too, questioning Army’s wisdom in making such a claim.

“Seriously disappointing to see Army propagating such foolish myths into reality. Expecting better from you guys”, said an angry post, while another faulted the Army for posting such a “ridiculous” claim without “vetting it thoroughly”.

There were a few from the Army to defend the Yeti claim; such as Maj D.P. Singh who fired back saying, the “Indian Army don’t need votes that they need to build stories”.

Former BJP MP Tarun Vijay urged the Army not to call Yeti a “beast” but a “snowman”.

“Congratulations, we are always proud of you. salutes to the #Indi-anArmy Moutaineering Expedition Team. But please, you are Indian, dont call Yeti as beast. Show respect for them. If you say he is a ‘snowman’,” he said.

One Twitter user came up with her own hypothesis. She said Yeti could be ‘Ashwathama’, a character from Mahabharat who was cursed to remain alive forever by Lord Krishna.

“Foot-print suggests that this Yeti is one-legged. Looks like he lost his other leg in Balakote air strike!” tweeted Shah Faesal, former IAS officer from Kashmir who launched his political party last month.
