Hyderabad: Lack of buses makes it unsafe

Residents, especially students, either thumb a lift from a passing vehicle or walk to the town.

Hyderabad: A proposal to run more buses to Hazipur in Bommalaramaram mandal, just 4 km from the headquarter town, has turned a realty after the murder of three minor girls.

Locals said that the village has only one bus that makes one trip to the mandal headquarters daily at odd hours causing inconvenience to many especially to students. The Rachakonda police has asked the Yadadri-Bhongir administration to start more buses and with increased frequency.

Residents, especially students, either thumb a lift from a passing vehicle or walk to the town. The house of Srinivas Reddy, accused in the murder of the girls is on the village outskirts, and he could keep watch on girls walking alone.

Police said Srinivas would track the schedule of individual girls. After selecting his targets, he offered them a lift a few times to gain their confidence.

Once they got used to him, he took the victims to the well on his field, sexually assaulted and murdered them, said Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat.

After killing P. Shravani, Srinivas played cricket with locals for some time and then attended a wedding. He used to live alone in the house. The commissioner said Srinivas is in love in with a woman from Vemulawada, whom he plans to marry. “He started visiting temples frequently. Srinivas posted a picture along with that woman on his Facebook profile,” he said.
