GHMC yet to clear debris in Marredpally

Consequently, residents are apprehensive of snakes hiding in the tree debris that has collected on the streets.

Hyderabad: Many trees that fell in some areas of West Marredpally and Lalapet due to the heavy downpour last week haven’t been cleared off the roads yet. Consequently, residents are apprehensive of snakes hiding in the tree debris that has collected on the streets.

BSNL employee Mr Ramesh Rao, a resident of Shantinagar in Lalapet, said, “We wonder why the roads haven’t been cleared yet. It could have been done quite easily. The roads have even dried up now.”

Another resident Mr Karunakar Reddy said, “Our children use the Kondapur street to travel to school and tuition classes. We’re afraid that this presents a good opportunity for snakes to hide in the debris that has been lying on the road for over a week now. We request the authorities to clear the same as soon as possible.”

This newspaper contacted the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for their response, and an official explained that they had been clearing roads as per the complaints received from residents and that they had not received complaints from West Marredpally and Lalapet, which is why they hadn’t taken any action yet. However, he assured prompt action in this regard now that it has been brought to their notice.
