Varsity registrar gets 15 days in jail for contempt
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday sentenced Mr S Sudheer Kumar, registrar of the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University for 15 days simple imprisonment in a contempt case.
Justice A. Ramalingeswara Rao was allowing a contempt case by M. Venkanna extension officer of the varsity, holding that the Registrar willfully disobeyed the court order.
Earlier Venkanna and others moved the court seeking to direct the Registrar of the varsity to allow them to pursue B. Sc (Agriculture) course.
The single judge directed the Registrar to give admission to the 19 petitioners in the academic year of 2017-18.
Counsel for the petitioner told the court that the Registrar without admitting the petitioners as per the court order offered them seats for the academic year 2018-19 stating that all the seats were filled up.
While holding the Registrar guilty under the Contempt of Courts Act, the judge awarded the sentence and stayed the sentence for a period of one month facilitating the Registrar to make an appeal.
Adi joins plea on Chennamaneni citizenship row
The Hyderabad High Court on Monday extended stay till June 8 granted staying an order granted by the Union home ministry in cancelling citizenship of Dr Ramesh Chennamaneni, TRS MLA of Vemulawada constituency.
Justice M. Seetharama Murti extended the stay while dealing with the petition by Dr Ramesh challenging the proceedings issued by the Union Home Ministry on December 13, 2017, dismissing his review for its order dated August 31, 2017 cancelling his citizenship.
The judge allowed an application by Adi Srinivas, Congress leader who had complained against the dual citizenship of Dr Ramesh seeking to implead him as party to the petition of Dr Ramesh.
