Top Chennai lad gets 21st rank scoring 335 out of 360 marks in the JEE
Chennai: Aniswar Srivatsa Krishnan is the Tamil Nadu topper scoring 335 out of 360 marks in the JEE (Main) exam, the results of which were declared on Monday. He secured the 21st rank nationally.
With 350 out of 360 marks in the entrance test for premier engineering institutes in the country, Suraj Krishna from Andhra Pradesh emerged as the national topper. Over 2.31 lakh students (1.8 lakh boys and 50,693 girls) have qualified for JEE (Advanced), which is the gateway for IITs and is scheduled to be held on May 20.
The cut-off mark to qualify for the JEE (Advanced) has come down this year to 74 from 81 last year due to the tough maths questions and complex calculations in the chemistry and physics sections.
Aniswar Srivatsa Krishnan secured 120 out 120 marks in maths section. He also got 120 out of 120 in physics and in Chemistry he got 95 out of 120. “I found the chemistry questions difficult. I was preparing for JEE in the last two years. I expected a rank within top 100 and I was surprised to get 21st rank,” said Aniswar. He studied at Devi Academy Senior Secondary School in Valasaravakkam.
“I am planning to study electrical in IIT or IISc, Bangalore. I am confident of doing well in JEE (advanced) exam),” he told this paper. His father B.Ramalingam is an engineer and mother R.Uma is home maker.
Another topper, R.Raghu Raman, also scored 335 out of 360 marks, but due to low marks in the Maths section he got the 27th rank. He has been preparing for JEE for over two years while studying at Maharishi Vidya Mandir School in Chetpet. “After school hours, I studied for JEE with available time. I am planning to study electrical or computer science in one of the leading IITs,” he said. He scored 115 in maths and chemistry and 105 in physics. His father name is K.Ravi and mother is R.Ramaa.
B. Pavan Kumar, deputy director, FIITJEE, Chennai said, “The cut-off for JEE (advanced) is gradually coming down from 2014. Last year, the cut-off mark was 81 and this year it has come down to 74 indicating the main exam was tough and average students are not able to cope with the exam.”
Students who get 74 or more out of 360 can qualify for the JEE (Advanced). He said there are six students from Tamil Nadu got into top 200 and 20 students are featuring in the top 1,000 ranks.Of 11.35 lakh students registered for the main exam 8.15 lakh are boys and 3.2 lakh are girls. JEE (Main) exam was conducted through offline mode on April 8 and online mode on April 15 and 16.
