Back to back fires in University of Hyderabad, students blamed

According to T.V. Rao, the chief security officer, the fires were caused due to the carelessness of students.

Hyderabad: Central University of Hyderabad Central authorities had a tough time putting out two fires that happened one after the other from 3 pm to 9 pm. According to T.V. Rao, the chief security officer, the fires were caused due to the carelessness of students.

“Both the fires happened in the south campus and each took three hours to subside. Around 100 people including teachers, students and non-teaching staff had to douse the fire that occurred behind the Ladies’ Hostel and near the non-teaching staff quarters. They definitely happened because of a stray cigarette butt or a lit match stick that must have spread amongst the dried grass, which can be found in abundance on these plots due to summer,” he said. Since the fire occurred in a dense green area, where trucks are restricted, the fire brigade couldn’t do much in either case. No casualties or loss of property were recorded.
