Tamil Nadu: Driver of another government bigwig killed in mishap
Chennai: A day after Kanagaraj, former driver of late Ex-CM J Jayalalithaa, was killed in a road mishap, another driver, who had been driving cars of IAS officials including former chief secretary Rama Mohana Rao, was killed in a road mishap on Saturday near Chennai. Police identified the deceased as Ravichandran (43), a government driver.
He was killed after being knocked down from his bike from behind by a private company bus in Mudichur road on Saturday night.
He was a resident of Padppai and working as the driver for IAS officer R. Jaya, a special secretary to the state government in Municipal Administration and Water Supply department.
“Earlier he was working as driver of many senior IAS officials including Rama Mohana Rao, who was chief secretary,” police and his family members said.
It may be recalled that Rama Mohana Rao was raided by central investigative agencies for suspected ties to a former TTD board member.
However, Police on Sunday said that foul play was not being suspected in the death of Ravichandran, which is the same argument they maintained in two other mishaps in the last few days in which persons possibly involved in the Kodanad Estate break-in were involved and of whom one died and another injured.
“It was a regular road accident. He usually travels from Padappai to Tambaram railway station in his bike and takes the EMU suburban train to state secretariat. On Saturday, he returned to Tambaram in an EMU and picked up his bike from the stand at around 10.30 pm. He was riding home when the bus knocked him down from behind. He died on the spot. Immediately after the incident, Ashokan, (40), driver of the bus and a resident of Maduranthagam, surrendered at the Otteri police station near Vandalur,” police said. Ravichandran is survived by a wife and a daughter.
