Telangana: Education officials scout for exam centres as deadline looms
Hyderabad: The decision to conduct various entrance tests slated for the next few weeks in only government institutions is proving to be a big challenge for organisers of TET (Teacher Eligibility Test). Education officials in all districts are now scouting for locations to conduct the exam and they have been given time till Sunday to submit the list.
Nearly 3.73 lakh candidates are appearing for the exam. Initially, the authorities shortlisted 1,175 centres for paper-2 (B.Ed qualified candidates) and 493 centres for paper-1 (D.Ed qualified candidates). Out of the 1,175 centres initially shortlisted, only 177 centres were government schools.
Close to 1,000 centres were private institutions — both schools and colleges. Now, officials are faced with the daunting task of identifying the 1,00 new test centres — all government or aided institutions.
Universities, government schools including residential ones like Navodaya and Model schools etc., government-run institutions for degree, B.Ed and D.Ed, polytechnic, intermediate and ITI study will be drawn in.
However, due to lack of enough colleges or dearth of infrastructure facilities, officials are finding it difficult to find centres in Warangal, Khammam and Mahbubnagar. However, we hope to complete this exercise by Sunday, officials said.
The tentative dates are either of May 14 or 15 or else May 21 or 22 depending upon the Eamcet. The date will be finalised so that both tests are not held in the same week.
Although many candidates have already downloaded hall-tickets anticipating the exam on May 1, authorities stated that new hall-tickets with new centres will be made available once clarity emerged on exam date.
In Hyderabad, the test will be held in 155 centres including Koti Women’s College, PG College Saifabad etc. that are new additions to the list. Meanwhile, some private school managements approached TET organisers expressing their readiness to host the exam.
