'DigiYatra' to make air travel hassle-free

Vijayawada: Domestic air passengers can enjoy hassle-free and contact-less travel with a foolproof system in place from Vijayawada International Airport using the facial recognition system for their identity right from the entrance to the airport.

For this, air passengers need to download the 'Digi Yatra' app on their cellphones and upload their Aadhaar card details along with other credentials. Once done, they can simply walk though the gates without security checks or showing their IDs. What's more, they do not even have to carry boarding passes.

For passengers without the app, airport authorities have set up four counters at the entrance where they will be guided to the registration centres where they can register for Digi Yatra in 30 seconds. They can scan their QR code and avail hassle-free travel from thereon.

The Vijayawada International Airport is one among the three where airports such a facility was inaugurated on Friday. The other two airports are Kolkata and Pune. The same facility is in operation in Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi also.

Coincidentally, AP minister for energy Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy inaugurated the new facility at Vijayawada airport while travelling to Tirupati by a scheduled flight.

Lakshmi Kanth Reddy said, "We launched the hassle-free travel for all domestic air passengers at our airport with the help of facial recognition system 'Digi Yatra' app which can be downloaded on their cellphones. There is no need for waiting in queues.
