BENGALURU: Even after the CBSE announced on Friday that re-exams will be held only in the regions where the two papers leaked, confusion still prevailed across the state on Saturday. Parents and their wards were worried that the re-exams would impact admissions to PU and degree courses in the next academic year.
“Admissions are a hassle these days and a huge concern for parents. Class 10 and 12 are the most crucial stages for a student and their future depends on it. A crisis like this is highly unfortunate. How can we decide on anything when we are not sure about the exam and the results,” asked Rajiv, whose son appeared for Class 12 exam.
Many parents are still not sure whether the exams will be conducted again. Experts too differ on the issue with some saying that there will be no re-exam in the state, while others saying that the economics exam for class 12 is likely to be held across the state as well.
A co-founder of one of the coaching centres in the city aired the common concern of students and their parents. “This year’s batch of students cannot really relax after the exams. Our students are stressed as they are clueless about what will happen and how things will pan out,” he said.
Question papers of Class 12 economics exam on March 26 and Class 10 Mathematics exam on March 28 were leaked in social media, hours before the exams were scheduled to begin. It was followed by chaos across the country over re-exams.
M. Srinivasan, president, Managements of Independent CBSE Schools Association (MICSA), said, “The class 12 re-exams will be conducted throughout the country and class 10 re-exams only in NCR and Haryana. The class 12 students won’t face any problem because there is not much delay in the results. But Class 10 students might face some problems with delay in admissions.”
Dr Niranjanaradhya, an education expert, said, “It’s very unfortunate. This is victimising the parents and children. The exams should be conducted in the most responsible way. I think the HRD Minister and CBSE Board should take complete responsibility and act upon it at the earliest. Re-exams will lead to delays in announcing the results, which will in turn affect admissions.”
Sandhya, who appeared for Class 10 exam this year, said, “We are done with our exams, but we still cannot relax because of this chaos. We need to plan our majors further and where to take admission. Everything is a mess now.”
Dr Niranjanaradhya said, “The students have to prepare for other competitive exams too. The re-exam will be an additional burden and it might also affect their seat prospects in colleges.”
Clearing confusion over Class 10 maths re-exam, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted, “As far as Delhi and Haryana, where police investigation is on, retest for Class 10 Maths will be conducted only if investigation points to large-scale leak. There should be no confusion.”
He also said, “Class-X students from J&K, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, WB, North-eastern states, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra, Telangana, Karnataka, TN, Puduchery, Andaman, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP and Chhattisgarh, will not give Maths re-test.”
The administration head of a city PU college said that the CBSE should put an end to the chaos soon, otherwise the admission process and the whole academic year will go for a toss.
