Probe ordered into Vontimitta accident: Andhra Pradesh government

ANANTAPUR: The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a probe into the collapse of temporary sheds, which led to the death of four people on Friday at Sri Kodanda Rama Swamy temple at Vontimitta in Kadapa.

The accident caused by a sudden downpour occured when pilgrims congregated at Vontimitta for the annual Sitarama Kalyanam celebrations.

 

About half a kilometre long sheds along with power poles had fallen due to the sudden downpour. The probe would also look into the lapses in making appropriate arrangements.

Chief Minister N. Chan-drababu Naidu is reportedly expressed angry with officials, including the police, for not taking appropriate measures that could have avoided the mishap.

Mr Naidu announced Rs 15 lakh ex-gratia to the families of  deceased and Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia for those who suffered injuries.  

The Chief Minister inspected RIMS hospital late on Friday and interacted with the victims who suffered  injuries.
