Lawyers abstain, clients face torrid time in court in AP and Telangana
Hyderabad: All court halls in AP and TS wore a deserted look on Friday as advocates abstained from work as part of the nationwide protest against the proposed Advocates (Amendment) Bill 2017.
As lawyers abstained from work, their clients were left with no option but to argue cases on their own by appearing before the trial courts across both states.
Some of the clients who lacked knowledge about the procedures in addressing the courts faced a tough time from the judicial officers while seeking adjournments.
In the Hyderabad High Court, judges adjourned hearings after noticing the absence of advocates as there was no requirement of presence of petitioners before the court.
The Bar Council of India had called for the protest opposing the Law Commission’s recommendation to the Centre on introduction of the Bill, 2017 saying that it is “Draconian, undemocratic and ex-facie, affecting the independency of the Bar.
The lawyers after abstain the court work staged protests in front of courts in both states.
