Bengaluru: Lingarajapuram flyover work leaves motorists fuming
Bengaluru: The slow pace of BBMP’s road resurfacing work at Lingarajapuram and the resultant traffic diversion has affected the nearby residents and motorists who use the flyover for their daily commute.
During peak hours the traffic piles up until the Outer Ring Road (ORR) towards Hennur side and Charles Park on the other side. The road witnesses chaotic traffic movement with motorist cursing the traffic cops and BBMP authorities for poor arrangement.
The traffic diversion has been done without any proper planning and no proper alternatives have been provided, said Shashank, a commuter. Bus commuters are the worst affected as buses are not allowed to ply on the flyover towards the Hennur ORR. The commuters are forced to take auto rickshaw to reach home at Lingarajapuram and beyond and HRBR layout. Due to heavy demand the auto drivers fleece the commuters, he added.
Another commuter P. Joseph said that due to the traffic diversion he lost his way and missed an important appointment. Even for those using GPS, it was not easy to locate and direct, he said.
A BBMP official said that traffic cops have given permission for the resurfacing of the road in 15 days. But it got over three days ago and the BBMP is struggling to complete the pending work. However the resurfacing of the flyover was necessary to ensure that the expansion joints of the flyover were not closed or asphalted, he added.
The official further said, since the top layer of the flyover has to be scraped before providing a fresh asphalt coating and hence it is taking time. He urged the public to co-operate.
