Telangana DG of Prison rapped by Principal Secretary Home

The home department had earlier sent two memos to the prisons department on the issue.

Hyderabad: Telangana director-general of prisons and correctional services V.K. Singh was on Thursday rapped by the principal secretary, home, Rajiv Trivedie for failing to comply with orders of the state government and delaying the relieving of DSP, jails, P. Varuna Reddy to enable him join the AP cadre where he has been allotted.

Mr Singh also ordered to relieve Mr Varuna Reddy on Thursday rather than wait till April 6, as was requested by Mr Singh. He was warned of action if he failed to do so.

The home department had earlier sent two memos to the prisons department on the issue. After the first memo in February, prisons officials requested the government to let them continue the services of Mr Varuna Reddy until the commencement of the All India Prisons’ Duty Meet, which was held from March 16 to 18 at the Telangana State Police Academy.

The home department sent a second memo after the meet, asking the action taken report (ATR). The prisons department replied that Mr Varuna Reddy would be relieved on April 6 after he submits an account of the meet.

The memo issued on Thursday follows this. The home department said the actions of the DG Prisons was untenable and against the instructions of the government.
