TN CM kickstarts work on Rs 1,652 cr Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme
Tirupur: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday laid the foundation stone for various development schemes worth of Rs 1,875.47 crore in Tirupur corporation under, besides also kick-starting the works for the long-awaited Avinashi - Athikadavu Ground Water Recharging Scheme at Avinashi.
The foundation stone for development works including new water supply scheme with outlay of Rs 1,063 crore and underground drainage for extended areas with cost of Rs 604 crore was laid at a function in Tirupur by the Chief Minister in the presence of Tirupur district collector K.S Palanisamy.
In all, Rs 1,875.47 crore worth development schemes are to be executed in Tirupur under Central government’s AMRUT and smart city schemes including convention centre, smart bus stand, multi-level parking, integrated command and control centre and LED street lights.
The Chief Minister also gave away Rs 2.50 crore worth subsidy for 1,000 beneficiaries under ‘Amma two-wheeler scheme’. Further, he inaugurated Rs 57.36 crore worth development works, which were completed recently across Tirupur district.
Palaniswami also took part at a function at Pudupalayam in Avinashi taluk and to lay the foundation stone for the ‘Avinashi-Athikadavu Ground Water Recharge Scheme’, which is planned to be executed with outlay of Rs 1,652 crore.
Speaking at the function, Chief Minister said, “once the Avinashi - Athikadavu water scheme is implemented, it will ensure adequate water for agriculture and drinking water needs of the area. The scheme would be completed by utilising funds from state exchequer.”
Listing out various welfare measures implemented by the AIADMK rule, he said, “the Pongal gift of Rs 1,000 each had been given to 14 lakh families. As per the special scheme announced to provide Rs 2,000 each for below poverty line and poor families, it would reach nearly 60 lakh beneficiaries in the state. The distribution would begin on March 4.”
The Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, P. Dhanapal, minister for School Education, K.A Sengottaiyan, minister for Municipal Administration, S P. Velumani, minister for Environment, K.C Karuppannan, minister for Animal Husbandry, Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, deputy speaker, Pollachi Jayaraman and various department officials took part in the functions.
