Thiruvananthpuram: Acupuncture body ASA hails centre decision
Thiruvananthpuram: The state committee of Acupuncture Science Association (ASA) hailed the Union health ministry’s decision to recognise acupuncture as a system of health care and therapy. ASA secretary Dr Pradeep Antony urged the state to take the initiative to provide benefits of acupuncture to the people. He said West Bengal and Maharashtra had recognised acupuncture as a system of medicine.
The Union health ministry decided to constitute a nine-member expert panel for regulation of acupuncture as a system of healthcare.
Besides it was also decided to have expert committees including experts who are academically active in acupuncture. Experts from allopathy and other systems also need to be inducted in such panels for drawing the boundaries for evidence based practices and best interests of patients, said the Union ministry.
