PM Kisan scheme doles out Rs 118 crore in first two days

The scheme provides farmers who have less than five acres of cultivated land Rs 6,000 per year in three instalments.

Hyderabad: Under the Prime Minister’s KISAN scheme which provides financial assistance to small and marginal farmers, Rs 118.22 crore has been disbursed to 5.91 lakh farmers in Telangana state in two days since its launch on February 24 this year. The scheme provides farmers who have less than five acres of cultivated land Rs 6,000 per year in three instalments.

In Telangana, out of 53 lakh farmers, about 30 lakh are covered under the scheme. The state’s agriculture department has uploaded the names of about 19 lakh eligible farmers on the PM Kisan portal.

About nine lakh farmers are said to be facing a problem with their ration cards. The Centre has directed the Telangana government to verify the ration cards of these whose names have been uploaded by the government.

Principal secretary, agriculture, C. Parthasarathi said that about 12 lakh more farmers will be covered by the scheme in the state. The department is verifying the ration cards of nine lakh farmers as directed by the Centre.
