2 days to go for verdict, Haris reaches out to Vidwath's kin

Shanthinagar MLA visits Mallya Hospital, meets 24-year old victim's father.

Bengaluru: In yet another move to build bridges with the family of the young man who was beaten up by his son in a fit of anger, Shanthinagar MLA N.A. Haris reached out to the father of Vidwath on Wednesday, visiting Mallya Hospital where the injured 24-year-old has been treated since the Saturday incident. Right after Mr Haris left the hospital, Chamrajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan also visited Vidwath’s family and the doctors treating him.

According to the sources, both Mr Haris and Mr Zameer Ahmed tried to persuade Vidwath’s family. Earlier also Mr Haris had tried to visit Vidwath, but his family had not allowed him.

All the seven accused, including Nalapad, have been remanded to judicial custody till March 7 by the eighth ACMM court. However, the 63rd City Civil and Sessions Court on Tuesday reserved the orders for Friday.

The Sessions Court judge justice Parameshwar Prasanna after hearing the arguments submitted by the special public prosecutor Shyam Sundar representing the victim, Tomy Sebastian counsel for Nalapad and S. Balan the advocate for the other six accused, has reserved the orders for Friday.

What happened at café?
On February 17, Vidwath and Praveen had gone to Farzi Cafe for dinner. Nalapad too arrived at the café around same time. A fight broke out after Vidwath’s leg allegedly touched Nalapad. The latter demanded an apology, but Vidwath refused.

Nalapad then called up 10-15 men and beat up Vidwath mercilessly until he fell unconscious. Praveen rushed him to Mallya Hospital, but there too Nalapad and his gang arrived and threatened the duo.

Praveen lodged a complaint with Cubbon Park police, who were initially reluctant to register it. Even after registering the FIR, the police did not take prompt action. Later Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy told the city police commissioner to suspend the Cubbon Park police station inspector Vijay Hadagali for dereliction of duty.
