Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the TS government and the police commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda to file counter affidavits on a PIL seeking to declare as illegal permission given by the police to dharnas, rallies, processions, rasta roko and other forms of protests within Hyderabad city.
T. Dhangopal Rao, an advocate of the city moved the PIL contending that permitting protests at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park was causing inconvenience to the people and as such was in violation of his fundamental rights guaranteed by Article 19(1) (d) and 21 of the Constitution.
Why no ex gratia for power lines, asks Hyderabad HC
Questioning the reasons for not paying compensation to farmers whose lands were used for laying of electric lines, the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday issued notices to AP and TS governments.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akhter was dealing with a taken up case of an incident in Anantapur district wherein a farmer and his son expressed their protest by hanging themselves with electric wires for not paid compensation for laying of electric lines through their agriculture fields.
G. Seshadri, an advocate, had written to the Chief Justice of the High Court on February 6, 2017 narrating the incident.
