2017 summer will break new record
Hyderabad: Year 2017’s summer will be the warmest ever and will beat the record of the 2016 summer, which was considered the hottest since 1901.
The Indian Meteorological department issued a statement on Tuesday saying there could be a rise in temperatures from March to May.
“Readings of the hot weather season (March to May of this year) suggests that above normal temperatures (upto 1.0°C) are likely to prevail over the entire meteorological sub division — that includes TS and costal Andhra Pradesh.”
IMD’s Hyderabad chapter director, Y. K Reddy, said: The summer forecast from March to May is out. It indicates that on top of the average, summer temperatures will be higher by a degree. It is will be higher than the normal average values from the past 30 years. Heat waves will be more likely this season for TS and coastal Andhra Pradesh.”
The year 2016 was the warmest year ever recorded since 1901 with country’s average annual surface air temperature 0.91°C above the 1961-1990 average. States also experienced significantly higher normal mean temperature during the 2016 hot weather season (March to May) with a rise of 1.36 °C — making it the second warmest summer ever, since 1901.
