Oral cancer cases may decrease
Hyderabad: Increase in taxes on tobacco and tobacco products in the Union Budget presented on Monday is being seen as a good initiative to curb the habit.
Experts say that it will see a reduction in the number of oral cancer cases. The increased taxes might lead to customers “feeling the pinch” and kicking the habit.
Senior oncologist Srinivas C. said, “The increased taxes will help to bring down the consumption of tobacco and this will help in reducing the incidence of cancer and other major ailments.”
With 1,00,000 new cases of oral cancer every year, experts say that giving up the habit is very important to bring down the cases.
While doctors and social workers are keeping their fingers crossed it is hoped that the increased taxes will act as an incentive and help do away with the habit.
