Boy dies of shock from power pole in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Four-year-old Md Yousuf died was electrocuted on Sunday when he accidentally came in contact with a streetlight pole while playing on a sand heap in Kacheguda.
Police said that the cables of the worn out fuse box on the pole were hanging out and the child got electrocuted. A case was registered against the GHMC official responsible.
Police said that Yousuf was one of the twins of Md Mahaboob, a daily wage worker from Nehru Nagar.
The owner of a construction site had dumped sand for construction use a few days ago near the streetlight in front of their house. On Sunday night, before supper, Yousuf and some others were playing on the sand heap. Around 8.30 pm Yusuf was electrocuted when he touched the pole and fell unconscious. His parents rushed him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police rushed to the spot and found that the fuse box fixed to the streetlight was open and ill-maintained. “The wires in the box were worn out and hanging out loose,” said Kacheguda SI M. Jayanna.
Yousuf's parents, who got married nearly 14 years ago, had twins after 10 years of marriage. “They were a gift after our decade-long prayers and because of their gross negligence I lost my child,” said Yousuf’s father Mahboob.
He lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the GHMC’s negligence killed his son. Based on the complaint a case of negligence was registered against the GHMC official responsible and the body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
“We have registered a case against the concerned officials. Based on facts we will proceed further,” added the sub inspector.
Meanwhile, the police alerted the GHMC emergency squad who visited the spot and repaired the wiring in the fuse box.
