Telangana HC reserves verdict on cable TV tariff
Counsel for cable TV operators argued that the regulations were arbitrary and issued without taking them into confidence.
Hyderabad: The High Court on Thursday refused to stay the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regulations regarding cable TV tariff which come into force on Friday, and reserved judgment on the pleas of local cable operators who challenged the press note of TRAI regarding the new regulations.
Justice P. Naveen Rao was surprised that the petitions challenged the press note which contained the new regulations and without challenging the regulations themselves. Counsel for cable TV operators argued that the regulations were arbitrary and issued without taking them into confidence. Mr K. Lakshman, Assistant Solicitor General, submitted that it the TRAI was attempting to regulate the cable TV sector.
