Safety rules were ignored: Akbaruddin Owaisi
Hyderabad: MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi alleged that the Exhibition Society was putting the lives of thousands of visitors at risk for the sake of money and asked the government to take legal action against it.
Speaking to this newspaper from London, where he is under treatment, Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi said that Wednesday’s fire at Numaish had taken place due to the negligence and inattentiveness of the Society.
Holding it solely responsible for the incident, Mr Owaisi said the Exhibition Society had failed to take precautions for the safety of shoppers and visitors.
He asked whether a fire safety drill was performed at the beginning of Numaish. The Society was focusing only on revenue, collecting huge amounts from visitors and shoppers, he said. He wanted an inquiry instituted to fix responsibility for the negligence of the fire services department. He alleged that the money taken from shoppers in the form of cash was not being shown in the records. Though the Society was running educational institutions, these were run on a commercial basis.
He said he would raise the issue in the Assembly and asked the government to take stringent action against the Society and cancel the lease deed of the land given to it.
