Rs 20 crore to modernise museum, zoos in Kerala

Women artists will create memorial walls there, but it made no fund allocation.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Budget 2019-20 outlays Rs 32 crore for the Thiruvananthapuram Museum and Zoos with Rs 20 crore for modernisation of museum and gallery.

Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) sanctioned Rs 269.75 crore for Puthur Zoological Park project in Thrissur, after a wait for two decades.

It also proposes ‘Comprehensive Study Museum’ on Kerala renaissance in Thiruvana-nthapuram under the aegis of Kerala Lalithakala Academy where the state raised the “women wall”.

Women artists will create “memorial walls” there, but it made no fund allocation.

The state will deposit Rs 2 crore in the treasury for giving an annual award in the name of Dakshayani Velayudhan, a Dalit leader who was among the nine female members of the Constituent Assembly.

A woman who works for the empowerment of women and marginalised people will get the award.

The finance minister allocated Rs 19 crore earmarked for the Kerala Science and Technology Museum here. KIIFB will also fund district cultural centres as proposed in the last budget as they enter the construction stage in 2019-20.

It proposes an inventory of valuables in strongrooms of treasuries initiated this year. Accordingly, stock registers will be prepared and those with archaeological importance displayed in museums.
