Immigration scam: India must ask US to use international law, says Lawyer
Hyderabad: Students who are in the immigration scam will require intervention from the Indian government as it is very important that international law be made applicable in their case and not the US criminal laws.
Advocate C. Mallesh Rao said the US would take into consideration the place of occurrence of the alleged crime. “Since the alleged offence took place in the US, it will only be their law which will be applicable in criminal prosecution. But as they are students and they can be given the immunity of being innocent it is very important that the international law be made applicable,” he Rao said.
A representation by the Indian government is the shortest way to deal with the case and help the students, he said.
“The application of criminal law in every state in the United States is different and hence it will have different jurisdiction which will be a lengthy process to deal with,” he said.
