Vemireddy faces raids by taxmen
NELLORE: I-T officials conducted simultaneous raids on the offices and houses of industrialist and philanthropist Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy at Hyderabad, Chennai and Nellore on Wednesday.
Sources close to the family confirmed the raids in Hyderabad, which is the official headquarters. There was no confirmation about the searches in Chennai and Nellore.
Mr. Reddy had sailed with the YSRC from 2013 and acted as coordinator during 2014 elections but distanced himself late allegedly because of the party’s failure to nominate him to the Rajya Sabha. He had planned to join the TD in the presence of party president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu following an invitation from district leaders but this did not materialise.
Mr. Reddy returned to the YSRC reportedly after party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy assured him of a Rajya Sabha ticket. His followers suspected the role of TD leaders behind the I-T raids.
Mr Reddy is known for donating funds for drinking water schemes for villages, temple renovations, education and health related issues. He runs a school along the lines of a corporate school for the poor at Nellore.
