Farmers unite, you have nothing to lose but your woes: Anna Hazare

He slammed the BJP- led NDA government at the Centre for neglecting the farm sector.

Bengaluru: Crusader against corruption and noted social activist, Anna Hazare on Wednesday called on farmers of Karnataka to participate in the proposed indefinite dharna at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi from March 23 to demand implementation of the Lok Pal Bill and measures to improve the lot of farmers in the country.

Addressing a rally organised by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene here , he slammed the BJP- led NDA government at the Centre for neglecting the farm sector and failing to fulfill many of its promises, including passing of the much awaited Lok Pal bill.

Noting that as many as 12 lakh farmers had committed suicide across the country due to the "anti-farmer policies of successive governments," he said their condition was worsening with every day as they were not getting a good price for their produce.

"While the government waives loans of industrialists running into several thousand crores , it is not ready to waive the loans of farmers although there has been no instance of a businessman committing suicide due to financial loss. I have never seen a government that imposes 18 per cent GST on drip irrigation and sprinklers used by farmers," he added angrily.
