CHENNAI: A businessman was arrested here on Wednesday for allegedly making “lewd remarks” and trying to behave in an “unpleasant manner” with actress Amala Paul while she was practising for an entertainment show in Malaysia.
The businessman identified as Alagesan from Kottivakkam on the outskirts of Chennai was arrested by West Mambalam police here based on a complaint by the actress.
In her complaint, Amala Paul, one of the leading actresses in South Indian cinema, alleged that Alagesan behaved in an “unpleasant manner” with her while she was in a dance rehearsal for her upcoming ‘Dazzling Tamizachi’ show in Malaysia next month.
“I was shocked at his behaviour and I felt humiliated. He spoke to me in a lewd manner and passed remarks about me. I thought it was imperative on my part to complain to the police since I am an independent working woman,” Amala Paul told reporters here.
The actress alleged that Alagesan was at the dance school where she was rehearsing for her programmee. Based on the complaint, Alagesan was arrested, police said, adding that further investigation was on.
