Andhra Pradesh to get 17 new varsities

The minister was rounded up by representatives of student unions who demanded immediate action against the university vice-chancellor.

Kurnool: Human Resources Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Wednesday heard complaints against Rayalaseema University Vice-Chancellor Dr Y. Narsimhulu.

The University has come under criticism from various sections of society with the academic programmes suffering badly due to the inability of the VC in creating a dependable framework. The minister was rounded up by representatives of student unions who demanded immediate action against the university vice-chancellor.

Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao was invited to open the science block built at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The visit, however, turned out to be a very strong platform to gather real feedback about University functioning.

After the inauguration of the Life Sciences block, Ghanta addressed a press meet and said that Navya Andhra Pradesh is being transformed into a knowledge hub. He said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is giving great importance to education and he has allocated 58 per cent funds in the budget for education sector. He said that a capital grant of Rs.179.55 crore has been sanctioned for the development of universities in the state which include Dr BR Ambedkar University, Nannaiah University, Rayalaseema University and Urdu University. To impart quality education to students, around 1,385 lecturers would be recruited in a short while at 14 universities across the state to fill up the post, he added

The Minister said that one more university would be allotted to Kurnool district. He said both Urdu and Rayalaseema universities would be given all the state support to function in an efficient manner. He called for development of Ressearch activities among students at the university.

He said that 17 new universities are going to be established in Andhra Pradesh. The minister said that Teachers Eligibility Test TET would be conducted on February 21.
