Karnataka: FB post leads to heated exchanges among Congress workers
BENGALURU: Congress spokersperson Brijesh Kalappa’s comments on former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna’s decision to quit the Congress led to heated exchanges with some party workers though the leader’s name was not mentioned in the FB post.
On his part, Mr Kalappa came forth with a controversial post, in which he did not mention Mr Krishna’s name, but described how he tried to reach Bharatiya Janata Party president, Amit Shah, on November 8, the day the decision to demonetize high-value currency was announced by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
The post stated that the leader, during his meeting with Mr Shah, sought an appointment with Mr Modi but was told by Mr Shah to quit the Congress, and then make a request. Mr Kalappa, however, said Mr Krishna had already spoken with Mr. Modi. After consulting an astrologer, he would met the Prime Minister some time in the near future, added the post.
Former media in-charge of Bharatiya Janata Party, Prakash Shesharaghavachar’s post on Mr Krishna’s resignation attracted strong criticism from Congress workers. Meanwhile, senior lawyer Mohan Katarki posted a long message on Facebook, suggesting that Mr Krishna ought to have retired from politics at his age, but had expressed his desire to remain in active politics. Though many concurred with him, they many felt politicians of his age should retire, while some others felt he ought to have groomed young leaders of Congress.
The netizens were not vocal about Mr Krishna’s decision to quit though the leader catalyzed the growth of IT industry between 1999-2004. They were muted when compared with those posted on US president Donald Trump’s decision on H-1B visa.
