She wants to live after death
Anantapur: A 14-year-old girl has set an example in social consciousness by asking her parents that her eyes to be donated well before her premature death occ-urred. Her parents, who can scarcely think about such practicalities in the midst of their acute state of bereavement, said, "Betiko bachaneko mouka nahin mila... lekin uski do aankhe andhonko madad karenge..." (We could not save our daughter, but her eyes will help someone who is visually challenged see.)
They recalled having scolded her for talking about death and organ donation when she saw an advertisement in the newspaper during a visit to Kodaikanal a month ago and expressed her intention to donate her eyes. Now, they felt compelled to fulfill her wishes and honour her soul.
Tuluva Padmakar Babu and his wife have been inconsolable after their only child, Hari Chaitna, who was in Class IX at the Radha School of Learning here, collapsed due to a sudden respiratory problem at their home at Railway Feeder Road here on Sunday.
Hari Chaitna, who was allergy-prone, and her father had gone for a cycle ride in the morning. She had eaten a little breakfast and then complained of a breathing problem. They took her to hospital immediately where she was declared brought dead.
The parents had all but forgotten their daughter's wish, but have now taken steps to do the needful. Radha School of Learning correspondent Jayachandra said that Hari Chaitna had always had a maturity beyond her years and a strong sense of social responsibility as a citizen.
