BJP dangles carrot of Central funds

Hyderabad saw massive development during the Vajpayee-Naidu era. The Centre will grant more funds if the TD-BJP combine is in power again.

Hyderabad: Sunday saw the BJP pulling out all stops in its campaign for the GHMC polls, with Union ministers M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prakash Javadekar and TS BJP president G. Kishan Reddy hitting the roads to appeal to the people to vote for the TD-BJP combine.

The leaders, in separate campaign meetings, said that a victory for the combine would mean that they could influence the Centre to allot more funds to the city for taking up various developmental activities.

Mr Kishan Reddy appealed to people not to believe the words of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao “as he was known for not keeping his promises”.

He said, adding that TRS leaders, especially ministers were issuing warning to some sections of the people that the government will stop extending welfare schemes if they fail to vote for the TRS.

“This is a clear case of intimidation of voters and I intend to lodge a complaint,” the BJP leader said.

Addressing a public meeting at Old Malakpet, Mr Javadekar appealed to voters not to support the “communal” MIM which he said has turned Hyderabad into a “hub of terrorists”.
