Hyderabad: Iconic bridge to come up near museum

This was approved by Chief Secretary Dr S.K. Joshi on Monday in a meeting of the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation.

Hyderabad: The iconic pedestrian bridge opposite Salar Jung Museum will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 231.50 crore. This was approved by Chief Secretary Dr S.K. Joshi on Monday in a meeting of the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation. The proposal also includes a multi-level car parking at Quli Qutub Shah Complex and construction of an additional bridge for fruit vendors in between Nayapul and its adjoining bridge.

The construction of a bridge for fruit vendors is to ensure that the second phase of the Charminar Pedestrian Project is completed. The fruit vendors, who were moved from Charminar, were then relocated at the Charkamam but there was a major protest from the jewellers associations and it was decided to relocate them by building a bridge at Nayapul. With the bridge finally being sanctioned, the hawkers will have to be moved after the construction begins.

This will help complete the Charminar Pedestrian Project, the second phase of which will be started only after the shifting process. The radius of pedestrianisation project is 220 meters around Charminar of which the first 100 metres is complete.
