A BBMP school that provides quality education at low cost

The PU College block, led by principal S.D. Mallappa Shetty, offers education to students in arts and commerce streams.

Bengaluru: BBMP Girls High School Mathikere has completed four decades of existence and it could well be a role model for other government schools on how to provide quality education at a nominal cost.

With a majority of the total 550 students hailing from underprivileged backgrounds, the learning offered at the institution has contributed to an ever-growing pass percentage at both SSLC and PU levels. In the recent board exams 15 students scored distinction in SSLC and 10 in PU.

The administration and the faculty complement each other in providing quality education to students. “It is heartening to work alongside a talented and dedicated teaching community at school who act as support systems to each child on our roll, be it academic, co-curricular or personal,” remarked headmaster B.R. Muralidhar.

With a total of 32 teachers and 8 non-teaching staff members at present, the school, which was established in 1978, has also been providing education at the PU level since 1986.

The PU College block, led by principal S.D. Mallappa Shetty, offers education to students in arts and commerce streams. The institutions are also supported by various citizen groups and NGOs, which equip them with constant upgradation of pedagogical equipment.

Apart from academic activities, the institution also gives equal importance to ensure safety and security of students on and off the campus.

While all classes are equipped with CCTV cameras, smart classes and e-patshala sessions are arranged for students from the high school level through II PU.

“We aim to provide the best and latest hands-on approach to what is being taught to them. Such initiatives have also contributed to our students performing well in various inter-school competitions, science fairs and innovation drives at different levels,” Muralidhar added.

The school also offers free karate and yoga classes to select students after working hours. “We have been lucky enough to have parent groups and donors from across the world contributing to all our initiatives and in even funding our students to pursue higher education in accordance to their results,” the headmaster said.
