Welfare pension won't be denied, says Thomas Isaac
Kozhikode: All the eligible persons will get the welfare pension, but there would be screening to block those who are not, said finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac in Kozhikode on Saturday.
A comprehensive pension register would be made this year to check if the same person is getting more than one pension.
“The comprehensive, scientific pension system will be declared in the budget. Once the extra pensions are identified, pension amount to the eligible candidates can be increased, and more people can benefit out of the scheme. Denial of pension is not a policy of the LDF,” the minister told reporters at the Government Guesthouse.
In the state, 49.5 lakh people are availing of pension. Of these, 39.24 lakh are receiving the direct pension. However, the population of people aged above 60 are only 10.3 lakh. There is a disparity in the figures, which shows that people are receiving more than one pension, the minister said.
He promised that a comprehensive rejuvenation package was underway for the KSRTC and it would be transformed into profit-making.
