Narendra Modi can't intervene in Mahadayi row: Prahlad Joshi

The PM cannot intervene in the matter. Mr Siddaramaiah must first persuade Congress leaders of Goa to consider Karnataka's interests: Joshi.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the Mahadayi row has not gone down well with the state BJP unit.

Most state BJP leaders have from the start been against the CM putting any pressure on the PM to resolve the dispute when it is before the tribunal, and the party too had vehemently opposed the resolution passed by the legislature seeking Mr Modi’s intervention. Said MP Prahlad Joshi, “The PM cannot intervene in the matter. Mr Siddaramaiah must first persuade Congress leaders of Goa to consider Karnataka’s interests.

The Maharashtra CM had called for a meeting on the issue, and the Goa CM, who had agreed to attend it, backed out due to stiff opposition from the Goan Congress leaders and now the meeting has been postponed.”

Opposition leader in the Legislative Council, K.S. Eshwarappa, however felt the state was not wrong in bringing the matter to the notice of the PM. “If the PM intervenes we will appreciate it.

But both the Congress and BJP should come to a consensus on the Mahadayi issue. If they do, it will help the PM look into it,” he said.
