Crocodile Rescued From Farmland in Odisha’s Kendrapara, Panic Grips Villagers
The presence of a crocodile in the farmland caused concern among residents, particularly as the area is located in the vicinity of the waterways and wetlands of coastal Kendrapara, where human-animal encounters are not uncommon.
Bhubaneswar: A six-foot-long crocodile was rescued after it became entangled in a fishing net laid in an agricultural field near Brahmanikohla village in Rajnagar area of Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Saturday, triggering panic among local residents.
According to locals, the crocodile was spotted in the field after becoming trapped in the fishing net that had been placed to catch fish. The sighting of the reptile in agricultural land, away from its usual aquatic surroundings, alarmed villagers in the area.
On being informed, forest department personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. The officials carefully freed the crocodile from the fishing net and secured it without any reported injury to the animal or the villagers.

Reports said the local forest officials were trying to ascertain whether the crocodile had moved into the agricultural area from a nearby waterbody or channel in search of food.

According to experts, such equipment can inadvertently trap crocodiles and other aquatic animals, posing risks both to the animals and people attempting to rescue them.
