Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident that has shocked residents of Palibandha village in Odisha’s Ganjam district, a woman and her two children reportedly died by suicide on Monday evening, allegedly following a prolonged family dispute.

The deceased were identified as a 45-year-old woman, her 23-year-old son, and her 20-year-old daughter. Police sources said the trio consumed poison at their residence amidst ongoing domestic strife. They were immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

According to preliminary investigations by local police, internal family discord may have driven the three to take the extreme step. “We suspect a family feud led to the incident, but a detailed inquiry is underway to establish the exact cause,” said a senior investigating officer.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the closely-knit village community, where such occurrences are rare. Shocked residents and local leaders have expressed grief over the loss and stressed the urgent need for accessible mental health resources in rural areas.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with knowledge of the family’s situation to come forward, assuring that any information provided will be kept confidential. The police are also awaiting the post-mortem reports to further aid the investigation.
