TMC Leader Tries To Shoot His Security Staff, Held With Arms, Ammo

Kolkata: A panchayat level Trinamul Congress leader in Nadia of West Bengal was arrested by the police with arms and ammunition after he opened fire on his security personnel, a cop, who however escaped unhurt luckily.

The accused, Sejajul Haque Shah alias Mithu, was a Maoist squadron leader earlier. After joining TMC, he became a follower of party MLA of Tehatta Tapas Saha who died last week.

Mithu is the TMC vice president of Karimpur panchayat samity no 2 while his wife is the head of TMC-run Narayanpur gram panchayat. He recently got a security cover from the state police following a threat perception on his life.

A police constable Jahangir Alam was posted for his protection. On Sunday night, Mithu consumed alcohol after returning home at Thanarpara area from a condolence meet in memory of Mr Saha.

Mr Alam requested him to go to sleep but he ignored. An altercation broke. Mithu suddenly took out a country-made pistol (single shooter) and pulled the trigger. The bullet however missed the cop. Mithu’s wife restrained him somehow.

In the wee hours of the day, the police raided the TMC leader's house and arrested him. The cops also seized the country-made weapon used in the firing, an empty cartridge, a seven-mm and a nine-mm revolver and eight rounds of ammunition during a search.
