Odisha: Vigilance raids unearth massive wealth of Motor Vehicle inspector
The search operations also yielded cash amounting to Rs 2.38 lakh, gold jewellery weighing around 250 grams, silver ornaments of approximately 400 grams, and bank and postal deposits worth Rs 56 lakh. Investigators are further scrutinizing other financial instruments and investments.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Sunday uncovered a staggering pile of disproportionate assets allegedly amassed by Golap Chandra Hansdah, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) posted in Boudh district.
Acting on credible inputs, simultaneous house searches were launched across multiple locations linked to Hansdah, revealing wealth far beyond his known sources of income.
According to officials, the raids led to the seizure of a double-storeyed building measuring approximately 3,300 square feet situated at Prafulla Nagar in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district. In addition, as many as 36 plots of land were detected — 35 of them located in and around Baripada town and one in Sribantpur, Balasore town.
The valuation and verification of these assets were currently underway by the Vigilance Technical Wing.
One of the more startling revelations was the discovery that Hansdah had allegedly spent around Rs 40 lakh on his daughter’s medical education, a sum that Vigilance suspects may also be disproportionate to his legal income.
In addition to immovable and financial assets, the team seized one four-wheeler — a Hyundai Creta — and three two-wheelers registered in the names of Hansdah and his family members.
The searches are still in progress at several premises linked to the MVI, and a detailed evaluation of the seized assets is underway.
A senior Vigilance official confirmed that a formal case has been registered and further proceedings will be initiated based on the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
