Gujarat Woman Fakes Her Own Death to Run Away with Lover, Inspired by Movie Plot
According to police, 22-year-old Geeta Ahir and her 21-year-old partner, Bharat Ahir, hatched the plan after deciding they wanted to be together

In a startling turn of events from Patan district, Gujarat, a young woman allegedly staged her own death to break free from her marriage and elope with her boyfriend. What makes the case even more shocking is that the woman and her lover reportedly killed a man and used his body to fake her death.
According to police, 22-year-old Geeta Ahir and her 21-year-old partner, Bharat Ahir, hatched the plan after deciding they wanted to be together. On the night of May 28, Bharat is said to have strangled 56-year-old Harjibhai Solanki in a secluded area. To make it appear as if Geeta had died, they dressed the victim in Geeta’s traditional clothes, put her jewelry on him, and set the body on fire near a pond in Jakhotra village.
When locals found the burnt body, they assumed it was Geeta because of the clothes and jewelry. But police quickly noticed something was off — the body wasn’t fully burnt, and it was clear it was a man’s body. This led to a detailed investigation.
Soon, police caught up with Geeta and Bharat at Palanpur railway station, where they were trying to escape to Rajasthan. Both confessed to their crime during questioning. Geeta reportedly told officers that she was inspired by the Bollywood film “Drishyam”, which centers on a family covering up a crime to protect themselves. She and her partner believed they could fool everyone by faking her death.
The two now face serious charges, including murder and conspiracy. The incident has caught the attention of many, sparking conversations about how films can sometimes influence people’s actions and the extreme steps some take to escape their lives.
This tragic episode is a reminder of the challenges faced by the police in uncovering the truth and the dangerous consequences of desperate decisions.
