Five-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Sexually Assaulted At Rohtak School
Police Register POCSO Case Against Unidentified Person, Examine School CCTV Footage
The family of a five-year-old nursery student staged a protest outside a private school here on Thursday, alleging that the child was sexually assaulted on the school premises, police said.
Rohtak Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rajpurohit said an FIR has been registered against an unidentified person under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother.
According to police, the allegations came to light after the child returned home from school earlier this week. Her mother noticed that the girl was in a serious condition while changing her clothes and subsequently took her to a private hospital for medical attention.
The child reportedly told her family that someone had taken her to a toilet at the school.
Doctors at the private hospital suspected sexual assault and referred the girl to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, for further examination and treatment.
Police said the matter was reported to the authorities following the medical examination, after which personnel from Lakhan Majra police station reached the school and began investigating the allegations.
The girl’s family has alleged that the school management failed to provide adequate information about what happened and demanded access to CCTV footage from the school premises.
Police are examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation and are also expected to question people who may have information about the incident.
The school principal has said that the institution would take responsibility if any wrongdoing is established on its premises.
The incident has triggered concern among parents and guardians, with several gathering outside the school to demand accountability and safety measures for students.
Police said the investigation is at an early stage and efforts are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and identify the person responsible.
Authorities have not publicly identified the child, in accordance with legal protections governing the identity of minors involved in sexual-offence cases.
