Deadly Trio of Storm, Lightning, and Fire Kills Six in Bihar’s East Champaran
Authorities have confirmed six deaths so far, though the toll could rise as information continues to come in from more remote villages.

East Champaran in Bihar witnessed a devastating chain of events on Monday, as a mix of extreme weather and accidents claimed at least six lives and left several others critically injured. Sudden shifts in atmospheric conditions unleashed a dangerous combination of strong winds, lightning, and rapidly spreading fires that tore through rural pockets of the district.
The destruction unfolded quickly. Lightning strikes hit multiple locations, catching many villagers out in the open and leading to fatalities. At the same time, powerful gusts uprooted trees and brought down weak structures, injuring several people. Amid this chaos, fires broke out in different areas, and the high winds helped them spread rapidly, destroying homes, livestock, and belongings within minutes.
Authorities have confirmed six deaths so far, though the toll could rise as information continues to come in from more remote villages. Several injured individuals, including those with severe burns and trauma, have been shifted to nearby hospitals and the District Medical College for treatment.
Rescue and relief operations are underway, with disaster response teams and local police working on the ground to locate affected individuals and assess the full scale of the damage. The district administration has announced immediate ex-gratia assistance for the families of the deceased and placed medical facilities on high alert in anticipation of further emergencies.
