Hyderabad: A 20-year-old biomedical student from Chennai, interning in Hyderabad, was allegedly raped by two men in Bachupally. The survivor was invited to a party by a trusted friend, where the assault occurred on May 3. She recently filed a complaint, leading to the swift arrest of the accused—her friend and his associate—under IPC Sections 376 (rape) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). They were remanded to judicial custody.
Police provided the survivor with medical care and counseling and are investigating further. The incident has sparked outrage, with women’s rights groups and students condemning the crime and highlighting the vulnerability of outstation interns. NGOs and SHE Teams Hyderabad are offering legal and psychological support.
