Chennai: Boy's kidnap cracked in 8 hrs, police team lauded

On Monday when Prakash went to fetch his son from school he learnt that his son was already picked up by two women.

Chennai: City police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Tuesday rewarded and lauded a police team for cracking a kidnap case in eight hours, in Puliyantope.

The commissioner had summoned the Puliyantope Inspector M. Ravi, Sub Inspectors and constables attached to Puliyantope to his office in Vepery. He also rewarded R. Mohammed Riyas (30) who helped the police by providing vital CCTV footages recorded in the camera installed at his house.

According to police, Prakash (30), a fish vendor of Puliyantope, had on Monday morning dropped his three-year-old son, Ajay, at school, located a few lanes away from home.

To his shock, Prakash did not find his son in the school in the evening. When enquired, the class teacher allegedly said that two women had picked up Ajay around 2 pm.

Sensing his son was kidnapped, Prakash lodged a complaint at the Puliyantope police station. Based on his complaint, a special team headed by Inspector M. Ravi launched a search for the kidnappers. They recovered CCTV footages from the house of Riyas and rescued the boy from a house in Vysarpadi in eight hours. The team arrested N. Kuttiammal (38) of Vysarpadi and her daughter T. Ishwarya (20) of Puliayantope.

They confessed to kidnapping the boy to sell him at a cost of '1 lakh. They were remanded under judicial custody.
