Security Tightened at RGIA After Bomb Hoax Mail

Hyderabad: Authorities have beefed up security measures at RGIA airport in Shamshabad after the bomb hoax mail. The miscreant who made a prank mail to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad three days ago has been traced to Pune in Maharashtra. However, the identity of the culprit is yet to be ascertained.

According to officials associated with the security at the airport, random screening of passengers’ baggage and also physical checks at the pre-embarkation security check (PESC) area, has also been increased as a precautionary measure. Inline screeners have also been placed on alert to carry out 100 percent Explosive trace detection of baggage and passengers at the airport.

Officials told Deccan Chronicle that these measures are a routine practice at the airport as a precautionary measure and surveillance has been stepped up in view of the hoax call. Though the call was found to be a hoax, all emergency procedures were followed and the airport was sanitised, they said.

Meanwhile, police, while warning of strict action against anybody indulging in such mischievous activities, creating panic among the passengers, also urged people not to resort to such acts. People should be cautious of such acts and also keep in mind the safety of hundreds of passengers at the airport.

“Stringent cases will be registered and tough action will be initiated against such persons. A hunt is on to trace the person who had sent the threat mail three days ago and he will soon be nabbed and put behind bars as per the law,” said DCP Shamshabad K Narayana Reddy.
