TIRUPATI: Tamil Nadu police on Monday arrested a 22-year-old woman for torturing her two-year-old son, after a video of the incident went viral. The video showed Thulasi, a native of Rampalli village under Somala mandal, beating her youngest son, stomping on him, dragging him by his hair and causing him bleeding injuries.

The  incident occurred at Manalpadi Mottur near Gingee of Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu in February, but came to light only on Saturday when Thulasi’s husband Vadivelan (37) accidentally opened her phone and saw the video, according to the TN police.

“Vadivelan and Tulasi have been married for five years and have two children aged four and two years. The couple had recently filed for divorce, after which the woman had left for her native Rampalli village in Chittoor district. Vadivelan, while using Thulasi’s phone, accidentally opened a folder and stumbled upon the videos in which Tulasi had beaten their younger son and recorded the act,” the police said.

On a complaint from Vadivelan, Sathyamangalam police led by SI Rajakumari reached the village  on Monday, sought the local police help and arrested the mother. She was shifted to Sathyamangalam for investigation.

Police said the woman had thrashed her son in a similar manner on earlier occasions. She was booked under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour a person) of the IPC read with Section 75 (abusing a child) of the Juvenile Justice Act.
