Netizen's Facebook post sends Madiwala police into a tizzy

The social media wing of the BCP has forwarded the post to the jurisdictional Madiwala police to look into the case.

Bengaluru: A Facebook post by a netizen on the official page of the Bengaluru City Police (BCP) has sent the Madiwala police into a tizzy on Tuesday as the post alleged physical assault on three people, including two women who were also sexually harassed, by an auto-driver and his accomplice (another auto-driver) at the Silk Board Junction on August 17.

The social media wing of the BCP has forwarded the post to the jurisdictional Madiwala police to look into the case and the police are trying to reach the victim so that a formal complaint can be filed.

Mohit Kalra had posted in BCP’s official Facebook page that “I want to register a complaint. How and where can I do it? An incident took place in Silk Board at 6:30 am on August 17. The driver physically attacked and harassed two women travelling with me and also hurt me badly, with the help of another auto driver. He was threatening to kill us and sexually attacked one more girl. People gathered on the road. He was very rude, disrespectful and despite warning repeatedly he touched the girls, physically hit me and abused us verbally. He said that the police was useless and traffic police won't do anything to him and they are nothing here. However, he got scared when we took his photos and begged us to delete them. His vehicle number is KA 02 AE 1595. Check his photos please.”

“We are trying to get the contact of Mohit Kalra and our social media teams have also messaged him asking for his contact number and to get in touch with us to lodge a formal complaint,” said a senior police officer from Madiwala police station. “A large number of people prefer posting their grievances online rather than coming directly to us and reporting such incidents at the police station on time,” he added.

‘Need a formal complaint’
“Since the post alleges sexual harassment and physical assault, we will require a formal complaint from the victim to proceed with the case, and our crime team is trying to gather more details about the incident. Reprimanding and arresting the auto-driver is only an hour’s job for the police,” the officer stated.
