Hyderabad cops nab cab driver who attempted to rape air hostess
Hyderabad: Police on Wednesday nabbed a 25-year-old cab driver, a day after he allegedly attempted to rape an air hostess whom he was ferrying in his car in Rajendra Nagar area of the city.
"The Rajendra Nagar police and Special Operation Team jointly operated and nabbed Mirza Ahmed Baig who was involved in the attempt to rape and rob the air-hostess of a private airlines," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shamshabad Zone) Sunpreet Singh.
According to a complaint lodged by the woman, she stepped out of her home at about 2 am on Tuesday to buy something when the cabbie approached and offered to ferry her wherever she wanted to go.
"She asked him to take her to medical shop and boarded the car. The driver misguided her in the guise of showing medical shop and took her to Himayathsagar via Shamshabad, with an intention to molest her by taking advantage of her loneliness," the DCP said.
The officer said the cabbie allegedly tried to molest the woman by pushing her down in an isolated place at Himayathsagar, and assaulted her when she resisted his advances.
Police rushed there after getting information and rescued her.
A case of robbery and attempt to rape was registered, the DCP said, adding that police formed five special teams to nab the driver, who has been identified from the CCTV footage.
After verifying the CCTV footages of the scene, police noticed the vehicle number and collected details of the accused, but he was not found at home.
"The special teams were sent to Hayathnagar, Towlichoki and Gandipet. Later the accused was caught at Gandipet and police seized the vehicle and recovered the phone from him," the DCP added.
